Late Breaking News !!!

Have you ever had a friend that used Compuserve but you couldn't send
him/her a message ? How about America On-Line or even Delphi, even
better Fidonet?.. Hang on to your seat and let me take you for a ride.

Picture this, you call a local board ( BBS ) and you hate those pay
services.. yes I know, they charge an arm and a leg. But everyone
except you join. Your friend says to you; " can you send me a copy of
the latest Wolfstein3D ". You call your friend on the telephone and he
lives in Fla and you live in PA. ( Now AT&T happy ) You say to your
friend; " You know damn well I can't send you a file".. he says; " to
bad I just got this killer game and I think you should check it out, I
would trade you this for Wolfstein" ( you know where I am going with
this, don't you ? )... You have no access to compuserve and your
friend has access to the Internet. The Internet lets your friend in
Florida or anywhere in this free world send you both a message and a
file for hefty price... But your friend, hell, he can pay for it. But
you know this Professional BBS called Quad-Tech Systems that just got
connected to the Internet and he is a local call. JACKPOT !!!... You
tell your friend that you just joined a local BBS and for just $5.00
for 4 months you too can send him a file and send E-Mail messages for
just a local phone call, even better.. no conect charges !!!... Your
friend in Florida is pissed... ( I bet he calls Quad-Tech Systems just
to check out your story ! )...

While navigating Quad-Tech Systems you stumble across newsgroups  (
They are just like conferences but BETTER ! ) While in this newsgroup
for Beta-testers for OS/2 .. you see a message thread from a
programmer in West Germany. This West German is sending Messages back
and forth to this guy in Japan and you think you can add to the
discussion. ( Wow !! Japan you think !! ) Neat ideal... You didn't
know this discussion reached 5 million people daily word-wide. ( no
kidding says the sysop, I've been trying to tell you that for weeks.
)..  You get real involved with the bbs and you stumble onto a
bulletin the sysop posted for users to read while waiting for the
commercial on TV to finish, so you can get back to your hockey
game.... " Whats this ?" you say to yourself. Are these newsgroups (
conferences )?... In the listings you see topics like Alt.sex and
comp.os.os2 and rec.boating and every conceivable topic under the
sun ( But you didn't know that a) these newsgroups reach 5 million
ar more people daily and that 45 megs a mail passes through the
mail system daily.. staggering numbers !! )You continue with your
thought and say.. nah they are just like RIME... just more messages
like RIME... But you leave a message to the sysop just the same for
more info.

The next day the sysop leaves you a message and says " Son, those
newsgroups are not like any conference seen on RIME.. in fact there
are 4500 national newsgroups and about 2000 regional newsgroups. If
you can think it, then it's a newsgroup.  These national newsgroups
echo/feed to all Major Universities and quite a few fortune 500
companies Research Intstitutions and small colleges world-wide and
every continent in the world. The most technical information ever
published can be found on the INTERNET. This information is nor found
in the local nets. In fact your access to information is much greater
than your friend in Florida. ( you discussed your friend to the sysop
because you were proud that you were able to save money and your
friend spent his pay checks on Compuserve )...

Wait theres more... The Interface in which you read your message are
so clear and concise that you have a hard time believing how easy it
is. But the sysop demostrates proudly....  All the command are just
like the commands you are already familiar with... nothing extra to
learn.. Hell, you find a thread you want to reply to; not a problem.
Just type "re" for reply and type in the message and save the message.
( the sysop takes care of the rest ).. You like off-line readers.. we
have that covered too. Just open up a mail door and get the QWK
packets ( works lovely in those popular readers like slimer and blue
wave !!! )... You want more.. damn your hard to please.. but I am
listening... " What private E-Mail Messages ?".. Now problem there..
just join the Enail conference and enter a message like you would to
anybody else... just substitute the real name with his email addrress
( E-Mail = Electronic Mail ) .. What is a Email address... That poor
friend in Florida EMail address is 712345,[e-mail]... " Gee
that's all ?"..  Remember beside Compuserve you can send Email to
Delphi, America On-Line and to every one connected to the
Internet. Yep.. real easy...

Tell me more.....well there are tons more where that came from.. but
the moral of the story is that right here in Pittsburgh, PA there is a
BBS that has this technology available to YOU !!! No joke, lies or
hype... it's here !! The Internet is the most pervasive network in the
world. Nothing scary about that.. just discover what Vice-President Al
Gore has discovered and many others have discovered.. that this is the
wave of the future. Throw away those lazy feelings and do something
about this...  Information is power...

In case you want more than just the Internet.. we have Rime ( A good
network ) Fidonet, Smartnet ( small but it has roots in all 50 states)
